Rafael's Vlog #2 English as Second Language Hello everyone! Conducting this interview has helped me better understand the real experience of an English learner and how acquisition happens outside of just a theory. As an English speaker myself and Spanish as my first language I understand what my colleague had to go through while learning english as her second language. One major connection I noticed was how important social interaction is in learning a new language. It is important because most of the learning comes from interacting with other students and how Leslie mentioned, conversation with peers and support from teachers helped them improved their English over time. This shows that language learning is not just about memorizing vocabulary, but about meaningful communication. Teachers being able to provide support at the beginning and gradually reduce it as students become more independent is also a connection I was able to make with our readings.
